The institution opened in 2005 is the first museum in Germany devoted to the subject of emigration. The arrangement of exhibitions is a realistic representation of a fragment of the quay with the ship's side, a fragment of the deck, fully equipped cabins of various standards. Most of them leaving Germany went on board transatlantic ships to the USA.
