The German Historical Museum is located in the 17th-century Zeughaus (former armory). Permanent exhibition entitled "Germans of all times. German history in paintings and documents ”is a multi-layered, consisting of about 7,000 artifacts and a multimedia-supported tale of nearly 2,000 years of German history.
Deutsches Historisches Museum was founded in 1987 thanks to the efforts of the then Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Helmut Kohl. The ceremonial opening took place on the anniversary of the 750 years of Berlin. In 2004, the museum was rebuilt according to the design of Ieoh Ming Peia, two years later the historic Zeughaus was restored.
The Zeughaus is a former armory building, considered the most important and best preserved baroque building in Berlin. The arsenal erected in 1730 was the largest of its kind in the Brandenburg-Prussian region for the next 150 years. War trophies have also been collected in the Zeughaus since its inception.
