Potsdamer Platz Arkaden is a three-level shopping center with about 130 stores of the most popular German and global brands. The center is a shopping destination not only for Berliners, but also tourists to a large extent. It is part of the Potsdamer Platz residential, office, shopping and entertainment complex opened in 1998.
Potsdamer Platz consists of 17 buildings, 10 streets, 2 squares, 130 stores, 2 hotels, 3 theaters, a cinema, several clubs, a casino and 50 restaurants, bars and cafes, not including offices and private apartments. In total, 480 German and foreign companies have their branches here. Potsdamer Platz is visited daily by an average of 100,000 people.
During the Berlin Wall (1961-1989) Potsdamer Platz was the widest "death zone" - an exposed area, good for possible shelling. It was here between the Potsdamer Platz and Paris Square in 1990 a gigantic rock concert on the occasion of the fall of the Wall, with the participation of Pink Floyd.
