Old Town Hall Bamberg

Local name: Altes Rathaus Bamberg

The Old Town Hall is one of the city's most characteristic and oldest buildings. Located on the river Regnitz. Inside is the Ludwig collection, which is one of the largest porcelain collections in Europe. The town hall itself is a monument and is on the list of Bavarian monuments, and along with the entire old town on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

In addition to the unusual location, the building is characterized by unique architecture. 18th century facade paintings by Johann Anwander, allegorical scenes or architectural details in the style of classic illusory painting are just some of the decorations worth seeing in the town hall. The building also has rococo balconies and bas-reliefs.

The first mention of the town hall comes from 1387, while as a result of the reconstruction in the years 1461-1467 it gained a form similar to today's. At that time he represented the Gothic style. In the mid-eighteenth century, the building was redesigned in Baroque and Rococo style.
