Voiron is a town at the foot of the Alps and a good base for excursions to the Pays Voironnais and the Chartreuse Nature Park. The picturesque Paladru Lake is also nearby.
The area around Voiron has been known for its hemp cultivation since the Middle Ages, and a textile industry developed in later centuries. At the same time, the production of liqueur played an important role in the economy. Today, the Chartreuse Cellars are not only the main attraction of Voiron, but also the longest wine cellars in France, where the liqueur is stored and open to the public.
Due to its location, Voiron is known as the Gate of Chartruse Park. Numerous hiking trails, viewpoints and bicycle paths make this area a perfect place for active tourism.
