Regional Natural Park of Chartreuse
Local name: Parc Naturel Régional de Chartreuse
The Chartreuse Regional Park is located within the departments of Isère and Savoie and has an area of over 760 km2. In the park you can see, among others limestone cliffs, caves, Guiers Mort gorges, alpine meadows, Charmant Som peak and the picturesque Pas du Frou road running along the abyss. For visitors prepared, among others hiking and biking, climbing paths and ski resorts.
In the park there is the Great Carthusia - the mother monastery of the Carthusian order, founded by Bruno of Cologne - the father of the association. The Order is known for its strict vows of silence and Chartreuse herbal liqueur with a characteristic green color, whose over 400-year-old recipe is known only to two monks.
The Museum of Contemporary Sacred Art, the Cave Bear Museum and the Mainssieux Museum are also worth visiting.
