Sainte-Maxime is a resort town on the Cote d'Azur. Around the small, historic center, there are recreational areas with access to a 10-kilometer stretch of the coast.
Until the second half of the 19th century, Sainte-Maxime was a small port town from which cork, boards and oil were transported to Marseille and Italian ports. The situation was changed by the fashion for seaside holidays, which began to gain more and more popularity at the end of the 19th century. The village, situated a short distance from the famous Saint Tropez, began to be visited more and more often, and thanks to the artists and writers who came here, it became known in Paris and other large cities of France .
Today's Sainte-Maxime is primarily a resort. Quieter than the nearby most important towns of the French coast, but with good facilities and numerous beaches. Some of them are wide, sandy and well-developed, others are located in secluded coves. There is a promenade along the sea and the older part of the city, and one of the most important buildings in this area is the casino. Regular boats depart from the port to Saint Tropez. Yachts and tourist boats can also moor here.
