Puilaurens Castle
Local name: Château de Puilaurens
The stronghold from the 10th century was a cluster of the Cathars - a religious movement considered heresy. At the turn of the 11th and 12th centuries, the Cathars found so much support that they began to threaten the social order of that time (they were against the law, church institutions and the wealthy). The crusaders sent by the pope captured Puilaurens Castle in 1255.
