Flame of Freedom is a monument standing at the end of the Alma Bridge in the 8th district of Paris. It is a replica of the torch, which is held by the Statue of Liberty from New York. The flame is made of gold-plated copper embedded in a stone holder.
The monument was given to Paris by the National Harald Tribune newspaper in 1987. It was a gift for the centenary of the publication of this English-language newspaper in France. Work on the monument was completed in 1989. It is intended to symbolize the good relationship that the United States has had with France since its inception.
The monument is 3.5 meters high. He is standing on the Seine on a stone pedestal. A foundation board was placed on it. After the death of Princess Diana in a car accident in Paris, the monument became an unofficial place where flowers dedicated to her were laid.
