Champs Elysees Theater

Local name: Théâtre des Champs Élysées

Contrary to its name, the Champs Elysee Theater is located on Montaigne Street. It is a music scene, staging primarily avant-garde and modern performances. Her art deco building was built in 1913. It is a symmetrical, simple structure with a facade decorated with bas-reliefs by Antoine Bourdell.

The building of the Champs Elysee Theater is one of the best examples of Art Deco in architecture in Paris. It is also one of the world's earliest buildings made entirely of concrete. The main room is covered with a cupola with allegorical paintings depicting various fields of art. The whole is decorated with floral and geometric motifs characteristic of art deco.

The ballet The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky was staged at the Champs Elysee Theater in 1913. This premiere caused a scandal, and the music was hailed as "barbarian" due to its innovation and break with the traditional canon. Today, the theater prepares three performances a year. Chamber and philharmonic concerts are also held here.
