La Grave is a small village in the French Alps and at the same time a well-known ski resort. The slopes here are on the Meije Glacier. The most famous of them has a height difference of about 2300 m, which makes it one of the most difficult in Europe.
The village is located at the foot of the Ecrins massif, of which Le Meije is 3984 m. From La Grave you can reach the summit by a year-round cable car to the Meije glacier. The upper station of La Meije 3200 m is an excellent starting point for the trails leading to the summit or to other parts of the massif. From the intermediate station to La Meije 2400 m you can start the hike to the mountain lake Puy Vachier. An attraction of the glacier is also the artificial Ice Cave, in which sculptures referring to the subject of pop culture are created every year.
La Meije Glacier is a well-known ski resort where you can go skiing for most of the year. The local routes are classified as quite difficult and very difficult, mainly due to the large differences in height and slopes. The area is also Glacier de la Girose, which is not developed for skiing. It can be reached by cable car to Les Deux Alpes. This glacier is located on the slopes of Pic de la Grave 3823 m.
The area around La Greve is also visited in the summer when you can go hiking. A popular destination is La Grave Viewpoint, from which you can admire the panorama of the valley and surrounding peaks.
