Huez is an alpine village located in one of the most famous ski resorts in France, Alpe d'Huez. In winter, more than 200 km of slopes of varying difficulty await skiers here.
The village is located at an altitude of 1,450 m above sea level and is surrounded by peaks that exceed 3,000 m above sea level. The most famous is Pic Blanca, which can be accessed by cable car. There is a great view of the Alps from the top, and with good visibility you can see almost 1/5 of the territory of France from here.
Huez experiences its biggest tourist siege in winter thanks to its most important attraction, Alpe d'Huez. The ski station is suitable for both beginners and advanced skiers. It is especially recommended for families with children due to the excellent ski schools and the care of animators both during the day and in the evenings.
In winter, in addition to the slopes, tourists can enjoy numerous restaurants and bars, as well as a sports center where you can play tennis or squash and try your hand at a climbing wall. The Sarenne Gorge is nearby, ideal for a trip of several hours. In winter, ice climbing enthusiasts like it, and in summer, you can take advantage of the local walking path.
Although Huez is visited by fewer tourists in summer, it is a significant center of active tourism. It is associated primarily with cycling, and during the Tour de France, one of the most difficult stages of the race takes place on the climbs leading to Alpe d'Huez. There are also hiking trails around Huez that you can hike to the surrounding peaks.
