The square was created in 1760 under the name of Place du Marché Royal, and then during the Great French Revolution it was renamed Place de la Liberté. The present name commemorates the existence of the Parliament of Bordeaux - established in 1451 and dissolved in 1790. In the center of the square there is a neo-baroque fountain from 1865.
