Stege is the largest city on the island of Møn. It has a well-preserved old buildings, which include, among others, half-timbered houses. There are pebble and rocky beaches in the vicinity, and plenty of areas suitable for walks.
The city is located on a narrowing between the sea and Lake Stege. It was founded in the Middle Ages and was an important trading center from the very beginning. They were surrounded by triple defensive walls with towers. Only one of them has survived to this day.
The city center has retained its historical character with half-timbered houses and merchant houses from the 18th and 19th centuries. Stege's attractions also include the Thorsvang Collecting Museum and the Gårdens Venner Møn Museum on its outskirts.
The seaside location means that the city is visited especially in summer. In the surrounding area, you can relax on pebble and rocky beaches, such as Ulvshale Beach and Rytsebæk Beach. Active tourism, such as cycling or hiking, is also very popular. In the Ulvshale Nature Center you can get acquainted with the local flora and fauna.
