Horsens is a historic city famous for the beautiful Søndergade promenade and interesting industry and prisons museums. A nice old town with buildings from the Middle Ages has been preserved here.
The city was founded in the 10th century, and it experienced its greatest prosperity until the 16th century. Later it was damaged in wars with Sweden and it never regained its position. Despite the battles and sieges, the historic old town with the Gothic monastery church in Horsens and the Church of the Savior have survived to our times.
Located by the sea, Horsens has a marina where boats and yachts can be moored. There is also the wide Søndergade promenade with many historic buildings, shops and restaurants. Near the center there is also the Langelinie Bystrand beach, and on its outskirts the Husodde beach.
The main attraction of Horsens is the museums here. In Fængslet, which was closed in 2006, there is a modern prison museum. The city also has the only Industry Museum in Denmark. In addition to these, you can visit the Horsens Museum and the Stjernholm Museum.
