Borre is a charming village on the island of Møn. It is located in the vicinity of the most beautiful white cliffs on the island, which are its showpiece. There is also a romantic park and a Romanesque church.
The village has existed since medieval times, and its oldest monument is a 13th century Romanesque church with a massive tower. In the past, it had city rights related to its commercial importance for several centuries. Currently, it is mainly a tourist destination, where guests come mainly due to the mild climate, nice beaches and monumental cliffs.
The Cliffs of Møn are Borre's biggest attraction. They stretch for a length of 6 km, and their chalky white walls rise to a height of more than 120 m above sea level. On the top of the cliffs, several walking routes lead to the cliffs.
At the northern edge of the cliffs is the Liselund Estate, which is home to one of Scandinavia's most beautiful romantic English-style gardens. Its founder was a descendant of the French Huguenots, Antoine de la Calmette, who created his summer residence here with a palace and other buildings, such as a Swiss cottage, a Norwegian house, and a Chinese pavilion.
You can learn more about the history of the Møn cliffs and their construction by visiting the Geological Museum of the Møns Cliffs. It is a modern exhibition institution with interactive exhibitions devoted to nature and geology. It allows you to get to know this extraordinary part of the Danish coast in an accessible way.
