The Chapel of Saint Charles Borromeo, also known as the Beuron Chapel, is located in the former monastery of the Sisters of Mercy in Teplice. From the outside, it's hard to recognize because it is embedded in the monastery's buildings. The interior of the chapel is covered with Art Nouveau polychromes made by Father Łukasz from the Beuron monastery.
The chapel is the oldest, fully preserved monument of the Beuron art school in the Czech Republic. The monastery building itself was erected in the 1880s. It was decided to decorate the chapel separated with the help of Benedictines from the Beuron monastery. The frescoes made by father Łukasz (Fridolin Steiner) are among the most valuable works of this art school.
From after World War I to the beginning of the 21st century, the chapel remained in oblivion. Precious paintings were deteriorating. The room was used as a warehouse and a classroom. The renovation was carried out in 2016-2017. Currently, the paintings have regained their former splendor. On the altar wall there is a representation of the Throne, worshiped by the Mother of God and a multitude of saints and angels. The other walls are covered with floral and geometric ornaments created in the spirit of Art Nouveau. Concerts and exhibitions are currently taking place in the chapel.
