Nový Svět is a former suburb of Hradčany, which was built in the mid-fourteenth century on the old road to Střešovice. In 1360, based on the decision of Emperor Charles IV, integrated with the Prague Castle in the then city fortifications. The origin of this part of Prague Castle is not exactly known, it was probably the stronghold of Prague Castle, which was created as a result of gradual filling of the stream and the Brusnice stream near the old city walls.
It is a very picturesque corner with winding streets and small residential houses, which are located away from the main tourist attractions. Nearby are: Loretánské náměstí, Villa Lumbe and Lumbe garden, Military cemetery, Capuchin monastery, Church of St. John of Nepomuk, Chernivtsi Palace (seat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic) and Pohořelec. The district is also known for being inhabited by many Czech artists and people associated with show business.
