Manětín Castle

Local name: Zámek Manětín

The Manetin Castle was the seat of the Lažanski family until World War II. It is a baroque palace in which some of the decor and furniture have been preserved. You can now watch them while exploring the interior. The palace is surrounded by a large English park and French gardens.

Until the 17th century, a Gothic fortress stood on the site of the current Baroque palace. It was rebuilt after the property was taken over by the Lažanski family and a fire that destroyed the property in 1712. The author of the project was Tomas Hafenecker. It is a two-story building consisting of several smaller parts that look like glued to each other. In the central part there is a projection topped with a dome. Adjacent to the main body is the corridor connecting the palace with the beech chapel of Saint John.

After World War II, the palace was in the hands of a local forest inspectorate. After 1989 a museum was created here and the destroyed palace was renovated. Beautiful sculptural decorations were saved, including statues of the four elements decorating the entrance stairs. You can visit private apartments, a hunting room with an exhibition of weapons and furniture with hunting motifs, a bedroom, a music room and a family gallery with portraits of members of the Lažanski family.
