New Colonnade
Local name: Nová kolonáda
The New Colonnade is connected to the Gas Baths. Built in 1912, the neoclassical, roofed promenade is a place that was used as a commercial outlet. Also today you can find souvenir stands here.
The colonnade was designed by Gustav Wiedermann, one of the main architects working at the beginning of the 20th century in Františkovy Lázně. It is a one-story, light building, which replaced the wooden colonnade located here before. The gable roof is based on Tuscan columns, and the entrance is guarded by sphinx statues.
The colonnade leads to the Gas Baths, which were built above the gas sources at the beginning of the 20th century. It is a cross-plan building with a central square covered with a hip roof. The arms of the cross are finished with tympanums, and the entrances support the columns.
