The market square in the Czech town of Cheb is the center of the historical part of the city, currently its official name is King George Square of Podebrady. Famous for its complex of eleven medieval merchant houses, called "Špalíček", their colorful narrow facades attract attention. In the square you can also admire the two old wells.
Tenement houses were built in the period from the 13th to the 14th century, earlier around the market there were wooden stalls on which they were sold, including meat. The houses have several floors, the top floors were intended for storing goods. The richer the merchant, the higher the tenement he owns.
Narrow, charming Kramarska Street leads between the tenement houses, its width is only 160 centimeters, tourists like to stroll through it and take souvenir photos in it.
The Chebsk market was given the current name in honor of King George, who lived in the city at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s.
