Established in 1817, the facility is one of the oldest and largest museums in the Czech Republic. It has collections of about 6 million exhibits in the field of natural and social sciences. It presents several permanent exhibitions dedicated to the history of Moravia. One of the latest exhibitions presents the life and achievements of the outstanding humanist Jan Amos Comenius.
