Tortureum, or the Torture Museum in Zagreb is a collection of tools and machines used to inflict pain and to execute. Exhibits come from different periods, you can see, for example, a replica of a guillotine from the 18th century.
Part of the exhibition are tools for torturing women accused of witchcraft and so-called heretics. It belongs to them, among others "Iron Maiden", considered the most brutal form of torture in the Middle Ages. The sharp spikes in her door stabbed into the victim's body, causing extremely painful injuries, but bypassing important organs. The victim bled slowly, suffering cruel torments.
Visitors will learn about the history of torture in detail, learn about ways to force testimonies and confessions, they will be able to spend a moment in a dark and humid dungeon. Each exhibit has been described in detail, guests can use multimedia guides.
