The church Catherine of Alexandria (Crkva svete Katarine Aleksandrijske) in Zagreb was founded in the 17th century. You can admire many valuable religious monuments here, they include, among others baroque wooden altars and wall paintings that depict scenes from the life of St. Catherine.
One of the baroque pulpit from the 17th century was donated to the church by the bishop of Zagreb, Aleksander Mikulic. At the top of the ornate dome, a small sculpture depicting Pope Leo the Great was placed.
Today's temple was built on the site of a former Jesuit complex. The church has a turbulent history behind it, as a result of many fires and earthquakes the original building was severely damaged. It was therefore necessary to undergo a major reconstruction, it took place in the 1880s, the project was handled by the Croatian architect Hermann Bollé.
