The old town is located on the island and consists mostly of buildings from the 12th and 13th centuries. It has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List. It is surrounded by palm trees, a wide boulevard around which there are restaurants, bars and hotels as well as numerous monuments.
