The multifunctional sports stadium was built in 1979. Today, one of the largest Croatian football clubs, Hajduk Split, plays its games here. The stadium's original capacity was 55,000, but it was reduced to 35,000 in the 1990s, making it the second largest stadium in the country.
The stadium was built for the Mediterranean Games. It was designed based on the theaters of ancient Greece. The characteristic structure of the roof, resembling a bow tie, attracts attention. It is 205 m long and 47 m wide. The structure of the stadium differs in the number of rows - individual stands are equipped with 27 to 54 stands for spectators.
Music concerts are often organized at the stadium. In 1985, the Yugoslav equivalent of Live Aid concerts was played here. In 2002, Marko Perkovic-Thompson performed here, and in 2008, Iron Maiden.
