Museum of Croatian Archeological Monuments, or Museum of Croatian Archeological Monuments has a significant collection of about 20 thousand. artifacts. The most valuable of them are epigraphic monuments (various types of inscriptions on hard materials, e.g. metal or stone), from the period of IX-XII century. They are mainly engraved names and titles of Croatian secular and church dignitaries. Only a selected part of the collection is displayed at the permanent exhibition.
MHAS (Muzej Hrvatskih Arheoloških Spomenika) is one of the oldest museums in Croatia. It was established in Knin in 1893. During World War II, the collection was transferred to Sinju, then to Klis and finally to Split, where it remained permanently. From 1976, the facility received a new headquarters in a modern building designed by Mladen Kauzlarić.
In addition to priceless epigraphic monuments, the MHAS museum also collects jewelry, weapons and everyday objects as well as stone artifacts, which were in the past decorative elements of sacred objects.
