Jezero Mir on the island of Dugi Otok in the Kornati archipelago is one of the few salt lakes in Europe. They are separated from the open sea only by a narrow strip of cliffs, in which there are underground canals that provide salt water to the lake. In the warm months of the year, the water temperature in the lake exceeds 30 degrees Celsius.
The unusual property of Lake Mir is its changing depth. The water level depends on the ebb and flow of the sea - thanks to the underground channels in the cliff, the lake and the sea operate according to the principle of connected vessels known from physics. The maximum depth of the lake is 10 m. Due to the high salinity, its fauna and flora is not very rich.
At a distance of 5 min. walking distance is the Telašćica bay, in which there are about 20 islands of various sizes in an area of 10 km in length. The calm bay is valued by sailors. Archaeological findings confirm that it has been inhabited since prehistoric times. It can be viewed from record-high cliffs rising over 160 m above sea level
