Fort Bourguignon (Fort Monsival)

Local name: Tvrđava Bourguignon (fort Monsival)

Fort Bourguignon (fort Monsival) is from the mid Defensive building erected by the Austrians in the years 1861-1866. In the 1980s, an abandoned and cluttered fort was taken over by a group of activists and founded one of the most famous rave club on the Adriatic coast (electronic dance music mixed live by DJs). In 2010, the building was taken care of by the Istrian Archaeological Museum.

Fort Bourguignon is one of the last fortresses in the history to use internal fortification rings (from a bird's eye view it resembles a huge donut). The corridor around the entire facility is open to the central courtyard. On each of the two floors there are 20 casemates, in which rifle and cannon fire stations were located.

Originally, the fortress was covered with an iron roof that allowed the cannon to rotate 360 degrees. The fort was used for its original purpose only once in 1866, during the so-called the third Italian war of independence.
