Museum of Slavonia is the largest non-thematic museum facility in Croatia. He deals with the protection and presentation of the cultural heritage of Slavonia - a historical land that was a separate principality in the ninth century. The museum's collections contain over half a million exhibits, including a rich archaeological and numismatic collection, folk art collections and techniques (from typewriters to agricultural equipment). The museum also has a library of 70,000 So talk.
The most valuable department in the collection of the Museum of Slavonia is the collection of 130,000 numismatists, including coins, banknotes, stamps, securities and medals. The museum has the world's largest collection of medieval Croatian coins. Its creation began when the museum was founded, when Francis Sedlakovic gave the city a private numismatic collection.
The museum was opened on February 17, 1877 as the Royal Museum of the City of Osijek. In the early days of the museum's activity, the collection was kept almost exclusively thanks to subsequent donations, changing its headquarters many times. From 1946, it is housed in a building erected in 1702, which in the past was the seat of the city authorities.
