St. Patrick's Cathedral Peter's in Đakov is a beautiful temple built in a combination of Neo-Roman and Neo-Gothic styles with Byzantine influences. This specific mix was to emphasize the reconciliation and rapprochement of numerous cultures in this region. When visiting the interior, it is worth paying attention to the frescoes by Ljudevit Seitz and the sculpture by Tomas Vodcki.
St. Patrick's Cathedral Peter was designed by Viennese architects Karl Roesner and Fridrich von Schmidt. The church was built for 16 years, about 7 million red bricks were used for its construction. Consecrated in 1882, the temple is characterized by two towers over 84 meters high, a bell tower and a huge dome.
Father Josip Juraj Strossmayer, the main initiator of the construction, as well as the famous Croatian writer and theologian were buried in the crypt of the cathedral. After visiting the cathedral, it is also worth visiting the nearby Episcopal Palace and the museum dedicated to Bishop Strossmayer, in which numerous memorabilia dedicated to him were collected.
