It is the newest gate in the defensive walls of Dubrovnik, which was pierced by Austrian soldiers in 1908. It was about shortening the road from the officer's quarters in the city to a tennis court arranged in a covered moat. Due to the lack of decorations and purely utilitarian character, the gate was dismissively called Buže, meaning Hole.
