Međimurje County Museum
Local name: Muzej Međimurja Čakovec
The Čakovec Museum is a place commemorating the history of the city and the Međimurje region. Archaeological, ethnographic and historical exhibits have been collected here, as well as a collection of paintings by the eminent Croatian painter and engraver Ladislav Kralj Međimurec. Lujo Bezeredi, an artist of Hungarian origin, also submitted his works here. It is almost 500 works, mainly sculptures.
Part of the museum is also the chapel of St. Helena from the fourteenth century. From the 16th century, it served as a funeral chapel in which members of the Zrinski family were buried. You can see very valuable medieval paintings here.
The museum was founded in 1954 by the authorities of the Međimurje region. Today, it is housed in a three-story palace of the inner castle complex in Čakovec. Educational lectures and specialized exhibitions are organized here, employees also publish expert books and conduct guide activities.
