The oldest park in the city lies in front of the former royal palace, now housing the National Art Gallery. It is a popular outdoor chess game. An original playground awaits the children, in which, apart from swings and slides, there are also musical instruments.
The park has a modern fountain decorated with a sculpture depicting a woman bathing. The installation was restored in 2012. Effective lighting was then added, activated in the evenings.
The history of the park goes back to the time when Bulgaria was under Ottoman rule. It was opened for the first time in 1872. After the country regained independence, the park was thoroughly rebuilt. The layout of the alleys was then changed, a cafe and a music stage were added.
