The sanctuary for bears is located in the Rila mountain range. It was founded in 2000 to provide shelter for captive bears. They can be visited from April to December. Tours are accompanied by a guide who provides general information about bears and tells the stories of individual animals living in the park.
There are 7 paddocks in the park, providing animals with conditions as close to natural as possible. A dense forest grows here, interspersed with streams and ponds. There are also artificial caves built in which bears can organize their lairs.
Most of the animals that find shelter in the sanctuary come from Bulgaria, Serbia and Albania. They were brought here from private farms, circuses and zoos. From 2000 to 2019, 31 bears were rescued.
