The history of the castle dates back to the 12th century, with the remains of walls and buildings preserved today, mainly from the 14th-17th century. Currently, you can visit both the ruins and the adjacent spacious rose garden, established on the site of the farm yard. About 3,500 rose bushes grow here from over 100 different varieties.
In its heyday, the castle first served as a defensive fortress of significant importance throughout the county. In the following centuries it was rebuilt and transformed into a comfortable and luxurious residence. Over the centuries, its owners changed relatively often, but it was almost always in the hands of powerful families such as Croÿ, Enghien or Harcourt.
Starting from the 19th century, the castle gradually fell into ruin. In 1930, part of the building collapsed, and the rest was given the status of a monument and the so-called "Historical ruins". Currently, outdoor and private events are regularly organized in the castle grounds.
