Saint Peter's Abbey

Local name: Sint-Pietersabdij

The Romanesque Benedictine abbey was built at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries on the Blandijnberg hill, at the highest point of Ghent (29 m above sea level). The church of the Mother of God, which is part of the complex, is a baroque structure erected in 1629-1651 according to the design of Jesuit Pieter Huyssens.
