The museum shows 10 centuries of military and technological history, from the Middle Ages to World War II. We will see here not only valuable armor, hundreds of uniforms, historic weapons, but also a collection of tanks, aircraft and cannons.
The vast area where the museum is today used to serve as training grounds for the Civil Guard. During the world exhibition in 1910, Louis Leconte exhibited about nine hundred exhibits that were to familiarize visitors with the history of the Belgian armed forces in the nineteenth century. The event was a huge success, which is why the government decided to expand the collection and create a permanent exhibition.
The museum is a research institution and has four departments: military history, technology and scientific documentation and research. There are knight's armor, melee weapons, first firearms, armored vehicles and planes. In the last hall, you can see warplanes, 18th-century balloons and modern jets. You can take the elevator to the roof of the palace, which offers a great panorama of the city and the surrounding area.
