The museum has an extensive collection of applied and decorative art, including exhibits from the 15th to the 19th century. You can see paintings and sculptures, tapestries, furniture and ceramics. In addition, there is a collection of weapons, jewelry and musical instruments. The most interesting exhibits include the eighteenth-century guillotine stored in the armory.
The collection also includes a collection of valuable stained glass, lace and Flemish tapestries from the 16th and 17th centuries. You can also see the painted bust of Charles V from 1520 and attributed to Conrat Meit.
The museum is housed in a medieval castle, then rebuilt into a country house. While visiting, you can visit the original medieval chapel, built in 1472. In the fifteenth century lived here Louis de Gruuthuse, a Flemish prince and a respected commander, also endowed with the title of Earl of Winchester by the King of England.
