The 12th-century temple, originally a private chapel of the rulers of Flanders, is famous for the relics of the Holy Blood stored here since 1150. The crystal vial contains a piece of cloth with which Joseph of Arimathea was to wipe the blood from the body of Christ. The church is the most visited monument in Bruges.
