Vienna Museum Karlsplatz

Local name: Wien Museum Karlsplatz

The museum is part of the Vienna Museum complex presenting the history of the city over the years and on many levels. The exhibition covers three floors and presents a combination of art and history, from the Neolithic to the mid-20th century. One of the main attractions of the facility are two large urban models illustrating Vienna before and after the demolition of Glacis, around 1900.

The exhibits that make up the exhibition include valuable nineteenth-century objects - fragments of clothes, furniture, crafts and original furnishings from the home of the poet Franz Grillparzer, as well as a collection of paintings by painters such as Klimt, Schiele, Gerstl and Schonberg. The living room with the adjacent fireplace room from the apartment of the legendary architect Adolf Loos is also worth seeing.

The museum is based in the building of Oswald Haerdtl from 1959. Earlier, from 1887, the museum was located in the Vienna City Hall. Currently, in addition to learning about the history of the city by exploring the museum interior, tourists can relax in the terrace cafe located on the roof of the object.
