Swiss Park

Local name: Schweizergarten

Schweizergarten belongs to the oldest parks in Vienna. There is a family pool and restaurant "Klein Steiermark". Numerous works of art are distributed throughout the park, including the installation of the famous Scottish artist Ian Hamilton Finlay. It stands near the 21er Haus building, which houses the Museum of Modern Art.

Since 2010, in the park you can see a monument dedicated to Fryderyk Chopin, placed here on the 200th anniversary of the composer's birth. Its author is the Polish sculptor Krzysztof Bednarski. This is the first sculpture depicting Chopin throughout Austria.

Initially, the park was named after Maria Józefa. Only after the end of World War I was it renamed Schweizergarten. It was built in 1903-1904 near the Southern Railway Station, between the newly built Armory and the old Belweder. It covers 11.4 ha and has undergone extensive reconstruction several times since its creation.
