The Museum of Firefighting documents and presents to visitors the history of the fire brigade in Vienna, which is the world's oldest professional fire brigade. The exhibition allows you to learn about the techniques and devices used over the centuries in the fight against fires. In addition to firefighting equipment, the exhibition also includes documents, photographs and clothing.
On the ground floor of the museum historic vehicles are exhibited, used by fire brigades in past decades and centuries. On the first floor you can see an exhibition that presents the life and work of firefighters from the medieval times until today. Information on major fires that have hit Vienna has also been presented here.
The museum is located in a building that is also the seat of the currently operating Fire Department in Vienna. The building was built in 1727-1739 according to the design of Lukas von Hildebrandt. The Museum of Firefighting was opened here in 1901.
