The Salzburg University Church of the Immaculate Conception is an impressive Baroque building and is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The church belongs to the University of Salzburg and is still used by this institution for various types of ceremonies and ceremonies. In addition, the University Church organizes numerous concerts, as well as some events as part of the music and theater festival in Salzburg.
The church for the university was already planned to be built by Archbishop Paris von Lodron in the 16th century, but it was only succeeded by Johannes Ernst von Thun at the beginning of the 17th century. The building was designed by Johann Bernhard Fisher von Erlach and this is the most important work of this architect. A characteristic, and at the same time unusual for the Baroque, feature of this temple are white walls not covered with paintings and a very economical use of stucco and sculptures.
