Fountains Hellbrunn
Local name: Wasserspiele Hellbrunn
Wasserspiele Hellbrunn are the gardens adjacent to the Hellbrunn Palace, known as "gardens of water fun". They owe their name to numerous fountains, conceived as jokes, which aim to surprise guests. Some of the fountains are hidden and they splash the visitors in unexpected moments. The gardens can be visited with a guide.
Hellbrunn Gardens have been preserved almost unchanged since its creation in the 17th century. Currently, they are also equipped with electric lighting, which after dark intensifies the experience. There is also a mechanical theater with movable figurines, as well as water organs.
The creator of the palace and gardens, as well as all "water pleasures" was the Archbishop of Salzburg Markus Sittikus von Hohenems, known for his great sense of humor. According to his idea, the gardens were designed in such a way that one place always stays dry at each fountain. This place was then intended for the archbishop, and now for a guide guiding around the gardens.
