The monastery in Zvernec is a Christian religious object located in the Albanian Vlorë region. The monastery of the Virgin Mary is an important monument of Byzantine culture, built in the thirteenth century. In the center of the whole complex is the church of the Blessed Virgin Mary which is a tourist attraction and a peaceful place of prayer for nearby Christians.
St. Mary's Monastery in Zvernec lies on an island that is a popular tourist destination. You can get to the island by using an old wooden bridge, 270 meters long. When the communists came to the fore in Albania, the country became the first atheist state in the world and the monastery in Zvernec closed for over 33 years.
After 1990, the monastery in Zvernec was restored and again made available to the faithful and tourists. The facility became a place of pilgrimage for Albanian Christians who visit the monastery on August 15 each year, on the day of the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Tourists also like to visit the church and the entire village, which has historical, religious and cultural value.
