Orăștie is a town at the foot of the mountains of the same name and a good base for visiting the famous Danish fortresses inscribed on the UNESCO list. There is also a large Arsenal Amusement Park .

The city was founded in the 13th century by Saxon settlers brought by the Hungarian king Andrzej II on the site where a settlement had been located since the 7th century. He stood here, among others Romanesque church on a circular plan, in the place of which a fortified Gothic church was erected, used by the Saxons. After their transition to the Reformation, it became an Evangelical church and is today one of the main monuments of the city. The church is located in the citadel .

In Orăștie, the layout characteristic of Saxon cities has been preserved, with a rectangular market square and low tiled houses. In the nineteenth century, several neoclassical and eclectic public buildings were built here, and today the Orthodox Cathedral of St. Archangels Michael and Gabriel .

On the outskirts of Orăștie, there is its greatest attraction, the Arsenal Park Transilvania and the Aventura Park Arsenal with carousels, race tracks and climbing walls. It is one of the few such places in this part of Transylvania, which is why it is very popular.

The surrounding Orăștie Mountains were the place where fortresses and fortified settlements were built by the Dacians from the 2nd century BC. Today, six of them, headed by Sarmizegetusa Regia , are entered on the UNESCO list.
