Imperial War Museum North
The Manchester Military Museum, which is one of the five branches of the Imperial War Museum, whose main focus is military history. This is the first branch of IWM outside the south-east of England, and its opening took place in 2002.
The museum has an original permanent exhibition based on multimedia shows. In addition to the permanent exhibition we will find large objects devoted to war, including the Russian T-34 tank and the US Marine Corps AV-8B Harrier. The IWM also has a special space dedicated to temporary exhibitions: we will find here objects more metaphorically related to war: paintings, photographs and women's art.
It is worth paying special attention to the award-winning body of the building in which the museum is located. It was designed by Daniel Libeskind and is an example of deconstructivist architecture.
