Manchester Museum
The museum operates at the University of Manchester. It is the largest university museum in Great Britain. There are over 4.5 million exhibits here. The anthropological collection has about 16,000 items, of which almost half are from Africa. You can also see Eskimo sculptures or weapons from Polynesian islands. The archaeological collection focuses on Western Europe, the Mediterranean, Egypt and West Asia.
A significant part of the collection concerns natural history. Herbarium, which belongs to the museum, has over 950,000 specimens from around the world, collected since the 18th century. a collection of mammals, birds, corals and bryozoans. The museum has the fourth largest collection of mollusks in Great Britain. It consists of 166,000 exhibits and has been developed around the Manchester Society for Promotion of Natural History collection.
