Science and Industry Museum
The Museum of Science and Industry is devoted to the development of science, industry and technology, with particular emphasis on the role of Manchester in their development. At the aviation exhibition you can see, among others Supermarine Spitfire or Hawker Hunter. Railway exhibitions show locomotives, including a replica of Ericsson's Novelty from the 1820s. There is also the first computer called SSEM and industrial machines. Steam train rides are also organized.
The museum is housed in the building of the world's oldest railway station, Manchester Liverpool Road, which was built in 1830. The museum itself was opened in 1969 and was originally called the North Western Museum of Science and Industry. Initially, it was also located at Grosvenor Street. The institution has been organizing an annual science festival in Manchester since 2007.
